ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE or No Data Received Error

The ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE or No data received Error appears on the screen when you look up any web page and the website you are trying to reach is not responding to your request. This is one of the frequent errors that can pop up on any website you are trying to explore. It accordingly prevents an approach to any web page using Google Chrome. This error mainly occurs due to disputes, misconduct on the website or due to the web server. This error can occur due to many causes that can be either from your computer or from a web server.

Ways to Fix ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE or No Data Received Error

This error can be removed simply by reloading the page either by pressing the F5 button or by using the reload key in chrome’s interface. But if an error does not get removed by this; you can try a couple of things to fix the “ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE” chrome error and load website accurately.

Method 1 – Disable Extension

To personalize their browsing occurrences, users use extensions. They are software programs that allow them to enhance the browsing experience and make chrome or any other web browser fit for users’ personal needs or preferences. There may be chances that these extensions are blocking the user from accessing the webpage. To check the installed extension in your chrome browser, type the “chrome://extension” address in the address bar and then press enter. After this, you are able to see all the installed extensions in your browser. From there choose whether you want to disable them or remove them.

If you disabled all the extensions, close and reopen the page and check whether you still receive the No data received Error or not. If deactivating the extension works its clear that one of the extensions is causing this error. In this case, enable them one by one to check which is creating problems and remove that.

Method 2 – Use Incognito Window

There are Data files that are used by your computer for a variety of reasons; for example, keeping the history of the websites you’ve visited in a small text file form known as cookies. Chrome’s Incognito window removes the private data component, so there are no cookies left when you close the Incognito Window. By this, no one can track your activity. Data can be saved by bookmark or by downloading through this mode. In this mode, site data, browsing history or data you fill in the form is also not saved.

By clicking the three dots in the top right corner open a new Incognito Window or you can open this by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N keys on the keyboard. In the new Incognito Window, enter the web page address you want to open and check whether this method helps to solve the error. If it works you can use Incognito Window each time while using that web page.

Method 3 – Winsock Reset

This error can also occur due to Winsock corruption. Most of the time by restarting Winsock the issue is solved. For restarting winsock following steps are to be followed:

Step 1 – Press Window key. Then, type cmd in the search box.

Step 2 – Now, right click on cmd from the result displayed. Click on Run as Administrator.

Step 3 – On Window 8 or 10, hold the window key and press X key. Click on Command Prompt (Admin).

Step 4 – Type Netsh Winsock Reset and press Enter in the black command prompt window.

Step 5 – Restart your PC and check whether the issue is solved

Method 4 – Reset Network Settings

To reset network settings several commands need to be executed which includes entering and executing “ipconfig” and “netsh” commands. Ipconfig is the command line tool that shows the current presentation of the installed IP stack on the networked computer. Whereas, Netsh is the command line scripting that allows you either locally or remotely, display or modify the network configuration of the system you are using. It even provides a scripting feature to run a group of commands in batch mode against the specified computer.

Steps to Reset the Network Settings:

Step 1 – Press Window key. Type cmd in the search box.

Step 2 – Right click on cmd from the result displayed. Then, click on Run as Administrator.

Step 3 – Click Yes to make changes in the computer by the command prompt which appear on user command prompt.

Step 4 – Now type these command on the black command prompt and press enter after each.

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log  

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log 

Pause

shutdown/r

Now, restart your computer, check the browser and try to open the website that is showing an error.

Method 5 – Disable Antivirus or VPNs

This ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE error can be caused by antivirus software installed on your computer. They might be blocking the websites to get open. To check if the installed third party Antivirus is causing the error or not, for a limited period of time disabled them and check if the error is occurring or not. If this is the reason for the error, you must change your antivirus or may reinstall the current one. And if you are using any VPN client on your preferred computer disable them too to check the same.

Method 6 – Deleting Temporary Files

This error might occur due to the files stored in the Temp folder in windows. So, to remove these files following steps are to be followed:

Step 1 – Press window key+R key from keyboard or right click start menu and select Run.

Step 2 – Run Dialog box will open. In Run Dialogue box, type Temp and press enter or click ok.

Note: To open temp folder you need to be access to the administrator account.

Step 3 – Select all the files by clicking the Ctrl+A button and choose delete.

Now, open the chrome browser and check whether the error is occurring or not.
